Bri Folds signs with Kopparbergs/Göteborg
The creative midfielder from Lakeland, Florida signs immediately on an 18-month contract following a successful trial.
Prior to Sweden, Folds started 79 matches in 4 years at Auburn University in the NCAA, contributing 24 goals and 25 assists. At Auburn, Fold was a three-time All-SEC honoree, two-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region player and a 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-American, and was part of the team that reached the Elite 8 in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
Folds has represented the USA at all youth age groups, most recently playing in the U23 tournament in La Manga, Spain in April 2019. In January 2020, the recent graduate in Kinesiology was drafted by the North Carolina Courage in the 4th round (36th overall pick) of the 2020 NWSL Draft.
After training briefly with the two-time defending NWSL Champions prior to the outbreak of the Coronavirus, Folds headed over to Sweden in June 2020, featuring in both of KGFC’s preseason matches: a 2–0 victory over champions FC Rosengård and a 3–0 victory over last year’s 3rd place team Vittsjö.
Mats Gren, Head Coach KGFC: “We have been watching Bri and been interested in her since January and been in contact with her team ever since. We are glad that we now have an opportunity to link her to the KGFC. Bri is an exciting player who is smart, has good ball handling and game intelligence. She is a type of player who in every way fits our way of thinking and playing football.”
KGFC have finished Damallsvenskan runners-up in two consecutive seasons (2018 and 2019) and are qualified for the 2020/21 UEFA Women’s Champion’s League, which begins in November 2020.
Folds will wear #23 and will be eligible to play official league matches for KG as of the 4th round of the season (15 July 2020 vs. KIF Örebro).
Bri Folds: “I’m beyond excited for this opportunity. It’s been a dream of mine to play overseas and it’s finally coming true with one of the best teams, not just in Sweden but in Europe. The training and friendlies in the first week have been top notch, it’s an incredibly talented team. The girls have been very welcoming and I can tell it’s going to a fun season.”
