Stine Larsen signs with Aston Villa
Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of 24-year-old Danish attacker Stine Larsen, who will wear the #9 shirt and becomes the Club’s 7th signing this summer. Villa were recently promoted to the WSL after 18 months undefeated in the Championship.
Stine joins the Birmingham-based Club having played a part in all Euro 2022 qualifiers for Denmark, scoring 5 goals in 5 games. The attacker also started all 3 matches at the Algarve Cup, scoring in the 2–1 win vs. Sweden. Overall, she has 45 senior caps for Denmark and 13 goals, starting 5 of 6 games as Denmark took the Silver medal at Euro 2017. Individually, Stine was named Danish Young Player of the Year (Talent) in 2015 nominated for Danish Player of the Year 2017.
Stine Larsen: “It’s good to finally be here and it’s good to be part of this journey they’re on. The English league is very competitive — the best teams are in France but here, it seems like every team is good. I can’t wait to contribute.”
In 2019/20, Stine played at FC Fleury 91 in France’s D1 Féminine, where she scored 4 goals in 14 matches. Previously, Stine joined Brøndby IF at 12 years old, playing for the senior squad from 2013–19 and scoring 35 goals. During her time at the Club, Stine won 3 Danish league titles (2014/15, 2016/17, 2018/19) and 4x Danish Cups (2013/14, 2014/15, 2016/17, 2017/18). Stine also made 16 Champion’s League appearance and was named Danish League Player of the Year 2017/18.
Gemma Davies, Manager, Aston Villa: “Stine is a young Danish forward, who has represented Denmark at all age groups and major tournaments. She is a traditional number nine that likes to operate inside the 18-yard box, has an eye for goal and is dominant both aerially and with her feet. We are yet to see the best from Stine, and we are all so excited to see how she continues to develop in a claret & blue shirt!”
