Rikke Sevecke joins Portland Thorns
Portland Thorns FC today announces the signing of Danish international defender, Rikke Sevecke. The 27 year old joins the defending NWSL Champions after three seasons in the WSL with Everton, and on the back of a successful World Cup this summer with Denmark.
The move to the Rose City is the defender’s second spell stateside, having previously played a college season in Ohio in 2017. Sevecke then moved from her home club Brøndby to FC Fleury in France, captaining the side, before moving to England to join Everton. In three years at Everton, the Danish international made over 50 WSL appearances for the Club, as well as leading the Club to an FA Cup Final at Wembley.
At international level, Sevecke recently received her 50th cap during this summer’s World Cup, which was Denmark’s first appearance in 16 years. They have now qualified for successive tournaments and face Germany this week in pursuit of an Olympics spot.
The versatile defender joins a Thorns team which sit atop the NWSL standings and are pursuing their 4th NWSL Championship since the league started in 2013. Off the pitch, the Club have long been seen as a global standard for the sport, with average season attendances above 20,000 and a legion of passionate and vocal fans.
On her first experience of the atmosphere, Sevecke said: "Watching a game at Providence Park is amazing but to be playing there will be something else."
Congratulations and good luck, Rikke! Welcome to Soccer City!
